A conversation with Impy Malting led inevitably to the subject of pubs & beer and, for want of something new to say about them, their presence on the silver screen.
Can any cinematic beer moment top this from classic 1958 war flick Ice Cold in Alex?
No, basically. John Mills' able quaffing has me all aflutter - though not, perhaps, as much as the charming Sylvia Syms does.
There is, however, a fierce contender. This depiction of the Wenlock Arms from 1981's An American Werewolf in London stands the test of time. As does the pub itself - it hasn't changed a bit.
So, what other good'uns are out there?

I'm not a fan of the Shawshank Redemption (it's certainly not the best film ever, as some seem to think) but the scene in that when they get given bottles of cold lager after working in the sun deserved an Oscar for Best Beer in a Supporting Role.
Ice Cold in Alex is still the best, though.
I thought the slaughtered lamb was the black swan (or mucky duck) in ockham.
There's a good scene in the bar in The Way to the Stars - a wonderful WWII film where all the action takes place away from the war - the recently-arrived US pilots have made their first bombing raid and are having celebration drinks - John Mills gets the beers in and shifts them from drinking light ale to dark ale - "oh dark!?".
The Golden Lion is actually the Golden Lion in Northallerton - used to drink there with my Dad in the 70s and 80s.
