I don't see why some people get so angry about that beer being expensive, though. It's not like it's obligitory to buy it. Then I start worrying I'm some sort of mad free-market libertarian and have to have a lie down. The Beer Nuthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14105708522526153528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1915546925885993140.post-50182049218580656322011-06-14T14:29:13.682+01:002011-06-14T14:29:13.682+01:00All my money arrives in a big truck from Germany e...All my money arrives in a big truck from Germany every morning, so I couldn't care less. The Beer Nuthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14105708522526153528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1915546925885993140.post-38785098199737165812011-06-14T14:27:10.009+01:002011-06-14T14:27:10.009+01:00I see what you're getting at, though:

Which is why I stick to cask, mostly, where I find the 'rapport qualité-prix', as the French would say, very good indeed.John Westhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15471796457374078158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1915546925885993140.post-19748002329433607592011-06-14T14:22:10.877+01:002011-06-14T14:22:10.877+01:00My experience (and, sure, I'm not Nielsen) is ...My experience (and, sure, I'm not Nielsen) is that this is exactly how it works in the niche beer bars - let's not forget this is probably fewer than 20 venues, even in London.

Don't get me started on craft bottle prices. *That's* the real killer.

I love The Kernel and accept paying a premium for their excellent beer, but you generally pay the same in places like Mason & Taylor for a Kernel IPA (at 7%) as you will a Rochefort 10 or Odell IPA.

There may be rational reasons for this but as a customer smarting at the price (as opposed to an interested industry watcher) I don't give a stuff - I just think it's expensive.

Still, it's cheaper than Dublin whichever way you slice it ;0)John Westhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15471796457374078158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1915546925885993140.post-259952107348705402011-06-14T13:01:00.257+01:002011-06-14T13:01:00.257+01:00easier to keep every keg in the same rough price b...easier to keep every keg in the same rough price bracket
Really? Does the typical customer differentiate that much when it comes to dispense, to the point where dispense method is more obvious than country-of-origin or ABV?

I can understand that local craft keg can be more expensive than cask beer from the same brewery (don't necessarily agree with it, but can understand it). But lumping local craft keg into a price bracket with the 5%+ ABV beers that travelled hundreds or thousands of miles -- because that's just what "craft keg" costs -- seems very wrong to me. Certainly doesn't work that way here. The Beer Nuthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14105708522526153528noreply@blogger.com
